Introduction of Saffron Cultivation in Kashmir
The famous Sufi saint Mir Syed Ali Hamadani, also known as Shah-e-Hamadan or Ameer-e-Kabir (RA), came to Kashmir in 1372 CE during the 14th century. He arrived with nearly 700 followers, including scholars, craftsmen, and spiritual disciples, who played an important role in shaping the cultural, spiritual, and economic life of Kashmir.
According to historical traditions, Ameer-e-Kabir (RA) introduced saffron cultivation to Kashmir. It is believed that he brought saffron corms and apple saplings from Persia and encouraged local farmers to cultivate them in the fertile lands of Kashmir.
The climate and soil of Pampore, particularly the saffron fields around villages such as Chandhara, proved ideal for saffron cultivation. Over time, this region became widely known as the “Saffron Town of Kashmir.”
Since then, saffron farming has remained an important part of Kashmir’s agricultural heritage, with the Pampore region producing some of the finest saffron in the world.
Chandhara – The Saffron Village and Birthplace of Habba Khatoon, the Queen of Kashmir (16th Century)
The historic saffron village Chandhara is known as the birthplace of the famous Kashmiri poetess Habba Khatoon, who lived during the 16th century (1500s). Located in the saffron-rich region of Pampore, Chandhara has been known for centuries for its beautiful saffron fields and deep cultural heritage.
Habba Khatoon, originally named Zoon (meaning moon in Kashmiri), spent her early life among the saffron fields of Chandhara. The natural beauty of the saffron landscape and the simplicity of village life deeply influenced her poetic expression.
In many of her famous Kashmiri “Lol” (lyrical poems), she described the saffron fields, the beauty of the saffron village, and the emotions connected with her homeland. Because of this strong connection, Chandhara is often remembered in her poetry as the “Saffron Village,” symbolizing both the agricultural richness of Kashmir and the cultural legacy of Habba Khatoon.
Her verses helped immortalize the saffron fields of Chandhara and made the village an important place in Kashmiri literary history.
Even today, Chandhara remains closely associated with saffron cultivation and the poetic heritage of Habba Khatoon, representing a unique connection between Kashmir’s agriculture, culture, and history.

1972 – The Beginning
Gh. Hassan Ganaie and his father, Haji Abdul Khaliq, began trading authentic Kashmiri saffron and Himalayan natural products. This marked the beginning of the family’s journey into natural products and traditional agriculture. In the early years, they supplied their products to well-known Ayurvedic and Unani companies in Delhi, including Hamdard.

1980s–2000s – Building Trust
During these years, the family business expanded gradually by supplying high-quality saffron, dry fruits, and natural products to local markets and traders while maintaining strong relationships based on trust and authenticity.
2001 Establishment Across the world
In 2001, Fayaz Ahmad Ganaie, together with his younger brother Jahangeer Hassan, expanded the legacy of Heaven Saffron beyond local markets and established its presence in the international arena. Building upon generations of traditional Kashmiri farming and trade, they transformed the family heritage into a structured and professionally managed company.
During this period, HEAVEN SAFFRON began exporting its premium products to 20 countries across the globe, marking a major milestone in the company’s journey. The business expanded its operations into manufacturing, wholesaling, and retailing, ensuring that authentic Kashmiri products such as saffron and other natural specialties reached customers worldwide with guaranteed purity and quality.
